Boney Watson & Beata Watson,

Founders and Lead Trainers of The Watson Basketball Academy

BONEY WATSON

Founder & Lead Trainer

Born and raised in Florida, Boney Watson began his basketball journey at Columbian High School, where he made the All-Century Team and earned the title of District Champion (1995-1996). After high school, Boney attended Sam Houston State University, where he received a basketball scholarship. In 2000, he and his teammates became Southland Conference champions. In addition, Boney was named 2nd Team All-Southland Conference as well as cementing a place in school history as the 2nd all-time assist leader and an inductee to the Sam Houston State University Hall of Honors. Following his successful college career, he played professional basketball abroad for 12 years, earning countless accolades and winning 12 championships throughout his career, including:

 

  • Member of the Qatar National Team (2012-2017)

  • Gulf Country Championship Champions (2016, 2014, 2012)

  • All Qatar 1st Team (2015, 2013, 2012)

  • FIBA 3x3 World Champion (2014)

  • Qatar Basketball League guard of the year (2013, 2012)

  • FIBA 3x3 Asia Champion (2013)

 

Today, Boney is the Owner and Lead Trainer of Watson Academy. He is a Gold Licensed Coach with USA Basketball and has occupied the role of Head Trainer and Organizer for several basketball camps. He is a proud husband and father of four sons, and staying active is one of their favorite pastimes.

BEATA WATSON

Founder & Lead Trainer

Beata Watson is a native of Sweden, now residing in the Sunshine State. Having lived and played basketball in numerous countries, Beata brings a wealth of worldly basketball experience and wisdom to Watson Basketball Academy. While abroad, Beata was a 4x Norwegian Senior Championship winner and a 2x Norwegian National Senior Championship MVP. Additionally, in 2004, she was named to the Swedish All-Star Team.

 

Beata’s collegiate experience began at Panola College, where earned several awards including regional and all-conference accolades in addition to being named Female Athlete of the Year. Beata then transferred to the illustrious Georgetown University, where she received a basketball scholarship.

 

Beata, like Boney, is a USA Basketball Gold Licensed Coach, and she has been a personal trainer for over a decade. In addition, Beata was a youth basketball trainer in Houston, Texas, for two years, as well as the Trainer and Organizer for several basketball camps. While living abroad, Beata utilized her on- and off-court experience as the Youth Coach for Gimle Basket in Norway.

 

Today, Beata is a proud wife and mother to four sons, and she has also added another title to her resume – homeschool mom. When Beata is not dominating the parenting world or the basketball courts, she enjoys being outdoors and staying active.
